Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 27, 2026

This page is maintained by Museum Passport to answer common questions about how we collect, use, and safeguard information. It reflects the controls currently enabled on the platform.

Information we collect

  • Account data: email address, display name, and (optionally) avatar and home city when you create an account.
  • Visit history: museum check-ins, timestamps, and — when you use the "Nearby" method — coarse geolocation used only to verify proximity to a museum.
  • Preferences: museums you follow and notification settings.
  • Communications: messages you send us through the contact form.

How we use information

We use your information to operate Museum Passport: to authenticate you, record your visits, deliver notifications you've opted into, and respond to support requests. We do not sell your personal information.

Third-party services

We use trusted service providers to host our infrastructure and authenticate accounts (including Google Sign-In when you choose to use it). These providers process data on our behalf under contractual protections.

Cookies & local storage

We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences. We do not use advertising trackers.

Your rights

You can update your profile, delete your account, and export your visit history at any time. To request deletion or export, contact us at /contact.

Children

Museum Passport is designed for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without a parent or guardian.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
